Would be interesting to know what is the blood type most IBS'ers have? I'm a 0+, and so is my father, grand father and my mother. All of us having problems with milk products, wheat, rye etc. My mother and grandfather having constipation while me and father rather often diarrhea.

My condition went really bad last winter. It was a period of high stress at work. At the same time I was eating a lot of sweets, ice cream and sweet bakings. And having mostly-vegetarian diet. The result of all that was that 15 mins after a meal I had to run to toilet and found lot of un-smelted food in excrement.

First my doc supposed it to be celiac, took the tests and I started following the diet with no wheat. This of course made me to stop eating cookies, cakes and cinnamon rolls that I soooo much loved. And made me feel so much better. The lab results vere negative, though. That was a big relief, and I run to supermarket to grab my favourite cinnamon rolls. The result was edema, a lot of gas and horrible smelling farts and excrement. I understood to go on with celiac diet.

When the spring brouhgt the warm weather, I started eating a lot of icecream, almost daily without any direct symptoms. Later on in the summer I got really bad skin rash on my hand, that made itching watery spots on couple of places on my left hand. Went to show them to dermatologist who wrote some standard cortisons. Of course those fixed the skin in couple of days, but the skin got worse immediately day after.

Then I heard about candida, and my symptoms matched really well and decided to switch to candida diet, that eliminates wheat, sugars, starches etc from the meal. The stomach got better and the skin as well, but my enery level dropped significantly. Almost couldn't move and felt cold all the time - it was autumnn by that time. The guide I followed suggested very little if any meat, and I skipped the meat part, due to my vegetarian diet. The stomach was OK most of the time, but I had to think about what to eat all the time, since even rice or buckwheat seemed to produce gas and make my skin rash watery again.

Then I read the book of D'Adamo and decided to give a try for the diet suggested for 0's. I shopped some cow meat, a lot of broccoli and an already in couple of days felt better than for years. I got my energy level up again! And the stomach settled down, no gas, no diarrhea, no skin rash.

Now I'm curious if anyone have experienced something equal?
And of course what is your blood type and your current diet you're following?

Streamer,

I am A+ have had IBS for years. ER4YT book says I should be mostly a vegetarian because A types don't have a strong digestive system. I have used digestive enzymes particularly with red meat/ pork meals. I determined 25 years ago certain food do not agree with me --- long before ER4YT book was published. My wife and 2 sons are O's and they eat very different than I do and don't have IBS. O's have a strong digestive system --- just not best for vegetarians.

With the diet you're suppose to be as per the Book ---you really don't do well as a vegetarian. But, if you're a veggie person because of religious reasons then you have to do the things Dr.Peter D'Adamo suggests. As you know you do best eating meat. Meat does not contain ANY fiber. You have to have fiber for your GI system to function properly. I think you should take a water soluble fiber supplement to help as a stool forming agent like psyllium( Metamucil or Equate from Wal Maet).

People that eat wrong for their blood type can and often do damage the villi in their intestinal tract lining. I have found there are several lactobacillus bacterias that helps heal or repairs their intestinal walls and also helps their digestion.

Lactobacillus Reuteri is very good ---- It is in Probiotica that you can buy from Wal Mart, Natures Way puts out a capsule that is enteric coated, and it is in Stonyfield Farm yogurt along with 5 other live cultures. Look it up online--- reuteri.com ----- Of course there are other lactobacilli that colonize your intestinal tract. Some good probiotic brands are Flora Source, iFlora, PB-8 and Primal Defence that can be bought online at dicounts as much as 50% off. They also help control Candida.

Hi, there. I've had IBS-D for 20+ years - I'm B+ blood type. As far as diet, I try to opt for low fat, high fiber with a balance of carbs/protein. However, I still have McD & Burger King days. I've cut down on my coffee intake (yes, Harry - cut down, but not eliminated), and supplement with a multivitamin, calcium supplement, fiber and acidophilus.

Katie--- Glad to hear the news!!!! What a Christmas present--- I know that one day you'll quit. For us IBS'ers coffee is just not worth the trouble. But,as you know many people have just got to have it.

When I had half of my colon removed last March --- You have alot of time to think during recovery about what's really important in your life. I'll tell you drinking coffee wasn't even in the top ten ---- as a mater of fact it wasn't even on the LIST.

God Bless---Harry

Good question - I have no idea since I haven't read the book the other posters are talking about. I didn't even know that different blood types should follow a specific diet.

Hi guys,

I had heard about the diet-blood-type connection before. Just didn't know what to think of it.

One of my friends suffered from fatigue - who stopped eating meat. Well, her doctor told her to take iron supplements or eat meat. Of course, I don't know if that has anything to do with anyone here. Just a thought.

Don't follow any particular diet myself, although I do notice that I can't put on weight. I think its possibly because I eat such a low level of carbs (compared to my past) - I eat plenty of meat and veggies and a little bit of fruits though.

Cheers, Raju.
