has anyone taken diet pills while on medication to treat hypertension? I talked to someone the other day who was on fastin and also on hypertension medication.

If our blood pressure is under control with medication, could we take a diet pill? I see my cario on friday. I am not going to ask him to write a rx for fastin but just curious what he would say. I am thinking there are people with Adult ADD and they take adderall and ritialin and those are 3 x worse than fastin. What do they do if they have hypertension as well (I am sure that has happened).

I'm taking phendimetrazine, which is similiar to Fastin. I have to go see the doctor every week to get my blood pressure taken. They are working well for me, I have lost 7.5 lbs since January 2. My blood pressure has remained in good control.

is that close to phentermine? I looked it up and I think it might be. All those are pretty much the same thing as fastin. When I talked to my cardio 2 weeks ago, he didnt seem to put off by the use of diet pills/fastin, but I didnt ask him if it would be would be something he would feel would be ok if I have my BP monitered while using it.

Yes, phendimetrazine is in the same classification as phentermine.

what meds are you on and how how is your BP without meds? I think this might make a difference if my cardio wil ok the use of fastin even if my BP is controlled. I am not overweight per se, but much heavier than I am used to and very uncomfortable.

My highest was after I gave birth which was 191/110, many things could have caused that but that makes me think that even with controlled BP, my cardio may still say he won't ok fastin because of my BP in the past.

my new average is 122/75. dips as low as 90/70 in the morings but goes up as the day goes on. Sometimes at night I can get 130/85

I am on Inderal and Maxzide. My blood pressure before taking medicine was 150/90. It now averages 110/80 at home. At the doctor it's usually around 130/86. I have a LOT to lose, about 60 lbs. I have been as much as 80 lbs overweight. Over the holidays, I gained 7 lbs, but more importantly, I felt totally out of control with my eating and was regaining the 20 lbs that I had managed to keep off for two years. My hope is the weight loss will allow me to reduce or even get off the blood pressure medication. I'm doing a low carb diet, which is supposed to reduce your blood pressure, so maybe, that's why my blood pressure has been so good on the medicine. I almost feel like I don't really need the phendimetrazine anymore, but I want to stay on it a little longer until I feel more confident iof my self control.

Thats good if you dont need the phen. But it does ramp up your metabolism to where you dont even need to diet! did you know that? So going off it your weight loss will slow down, you will feel more hungry and also the phentermine releases endorphins into your brain making you feel good/happy.

You will notice a difference going off. Good luck with your weight loss. I am going to talk to my cardio tommorow.

No I was not aware that it ramps up my metabolism. That's good. There is a certain amount of guilt associated with taking diet pills, but I really need to lose weight. I'll play it by ear as to rather to continue taking them. I just happy that my doctor was willing to give them to me.

no need to feel guilty. I took fastin years ago and I was super thin for years. I went off and the weight stayed off, then I had 3 pregnancies and IV steroids during my last pregnancy, well that changed a lot of things. lol

I just want my life back and dieting is for the birds. I see so many people try and most fail or dont even meet their goal. I have tried on my own for a year now and I have good eating and exerise habits. I dont eat meat or dairy, I dont eat white bread, I swim 3 times a day. the weight is just not coming off! So yes I would like my old friend fastin to help me get to where I was before all the babies and steroids.

I did have my thyroid tested again, waiting on the results of that. My doctor is stumped as to what is going on with me.

Well I hope you get to the bottom of what's causing your weight gain. As for me, it was sweets and overeating, but I do seem to have a slower metabolism since I went through the menopause. Good luck with your doctor's visit tommorow. Maybe you can get some phentermine.

I don't really know about the subject of fat burners, but wouldn't they speed up your heart rate? I mean after all, thats how fat is burned. So couldn't the sped up heart in turn cause elevated BP? I'm not sure though.

I just can't wait to see how much weight i put on between the Propranolol 40 mg twice a day and the efefxor 150 mg a day. I lifted weights right after taking my beta blocker, and i had NO energy :( Thats another reason it's easier to gain so much weight on beta blockers, keeps our heart rate down, even during exercise. I'm going to be so mad if i lose all my gain and get chubby. I gained so much weight so fast when i was on a SSRI that i got stretch marks on my thighs, i weigh 151 right now. I'm going to keep track and see how much weight i out on. I'm also worried about eating every 3 hours now, since my metabolism is going to be so much lower.

Flutterbye, best advice i can give is don't go on a diet, just try to keep eating healthy things and watch portion sizes. It's funny we get meds to help with things like this, but then in turn they can cause something like weight gain which in turn causes higher blood pressure.

I do eat healthy. I eat very healthy, i am from Colorado, we all eat really well. Point being, if I hear eat less exercise more one more time I am going to kick something. Doesn't always help people lose weight, unfortunaly. if you are a female, we deal with many other factors, Hormones being our main enemy sometimes. People tend to treat us as if we really eating cakes and candy and just lazy and not really trying hard enough. I am VERY uncomfortable and want this weight off. Otherwise I fear it wil turn into a life liong battle of dieting and exercie and never getting back to where I want to be. I see it sooo many times.

As for speeding up heart rate, yes fastin does. One person here is on fastin and claims to be doing well on it and bp not increasing. I do know another person on fastin with hypertension and they are doing ok on it as well. As for getting a doctor top prescribe even if you dont have hypertension is difficult, much less if you do.

well I saw my endo this morning and he would not prescribe fastin for me. Due to fact I have hypertension. he said it would be foolish and unsafe. he also said if my cardio doc thought it was safe enough he should prescribe it. lol oh well.
