Off the top of my head, I would say Stress (emotional or physical) is the main reason. Too much fluid intake in a short amount of time can raise one's b/p. Failing to take one's meds on time. Fear is a big one because it will bypass even beta blockers apparently & raise b/p. Fam

For me, my blood pressure spikes were caused from fear.... fear of what now that this new disease is in my life... fear of will I have to take this drug forever.... fear of many things, so many I have not been able to put a finger on them all but I spoke to my Dr who believes that I should see a councilor.... the reason being is that in the beginning of all this I stated that I did not want any anti-depressants and psychiatrist are noted for their medicine pads as is a psychologist... so a councilor gives you a person to simply talk to.

Blood Pressure spikes, and heart rate irregularities, can be caused by anything that causes an increase in body hormones, or cytokines; such as physical or emotional stress, pollutants, allergens and/or other irritants, IMHO.
