Hiya, I am new here and hoping someone can help.
I have for the past 5 months been suffering from blood (rbc's and wbc's) in my urine (microscopic) everyday. I also have right flank pain - constant dull ache but it has changed recently to a sharp pain a few times a day, nausea, decreased appitite, fatigue, fluid retention in abdomen and (most recently) decreased urine output. My urine is also very cloudy, has white 'stringy things' floating in it! and dark in colour.
I have had six lots of antibiotics, but have only had one infection found.
I have had ultrasound (negative), cat scan (negative) cytoscopy (negative).
I also had a blood test months ago and that was also ok apart from raised albumin.
The docs are now at a loss as to what it may be and my urologist (on Friday) said they don't want to see me for another SIX months.
I am now getting very upset and distressed about all of this - am i going mad??
They thought I may have a kidney stone which could have been causing an infection but this has been ruled out, as the ultrasound and cat scan came back negative.
My flank pain (between the last rib and top of pelvis) didn't hurt to touch but now I have pin pointed an area which is very tender.
Can anyone help??? Please.

The presence of blood and albumin in your urine could be from a kidney disease (glomerulonephritis). You should see a nephrologist if you haven't already. Have you had your kidney function checked (your creatinine level)?

Hi and thanks for the reply.
The raised albumin level was found in a blood test - I was told this was probably due to a healthy diet???
Apart from a blood test and ultrasound my kidneys have not been checked.
I have seen my gp and urologist. I don't know how I would get to see a nephrologist as I am in the UK and guided by my gp?
Thanks again for the reply.

Just an update.
I have been to my gp and he has ordered new blood tests and urine tests to see how my kidneys are functioning. He has also given me morphine to help with the pain.
In the last two weeks I have lost 5.5 lbs and my urine output is now (approx) 600mls in 24 hrs!!
I have also looked closer at family history and found my great grandfather died of kidney cancer and another family member (my aunt) had long term problems with her kidneys - she had to have one removed and the other couldn't be cured before she died!!
Does anyone know if kidney disease can be inherited or genetic??
Help anyone.

I don't know if anyone is interested in reading my ramblings but I thought I would update it anyway.
I have been to the docs today and been told my gfr is 79 and my pcr is 6. I don't know what this means but hey the doc didn't seem bothered. I am going to do another urine sample as, guess what wbc's were found - as normal.
I am at the end of my tether, feeling so unwell - but hey who cares right?

Hi thanks for taking the time to respond.
In answer to your question, the simple answer is I don't know.
Why?
Thanks again

High uric acid levels can create uric acid stones. These type of stones are hard to detect even with a CT scan. They are almost undetectable in a kidney xray because of the stone's composition. High uric acid conditions can also cause gout, which can create finger joint pain. There might be a correlation here. At least, have a blood test for uric acid levels to rule out.
