Hi there , I am new to this thread but not sure if i'm in the right spot? I had a dexa scan and it showed bad and i have to take calcium plus D for a year then get rechecked in a year. Osteo runs big time in my family. I have had alot of bone pain and weakness. Is the Dexa scan the on that shown the Osteo?

The DEXA scan will show bone density. Based on these findings you are assigned a t or z score. These scores will then determine if you indeed fall into the category of osteoporosis. In terms of "bone pain", this is not necessarily an indicator of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is called the "silent thief" in that there typically is no pain associated with it.

Hi there, thanks for the reply. I am not sure as they did not say what my score was just that like i said it just said to my Dr. that i need to take calcium vitamins ect. and recheck in a year and if not improved next onto a prescribed one. I wasn't saying that because i had the dexa scan and it showed what it showed that i would be having bone pain and weakness, i was just wondering if this could have been the cause why i have always had;) Thanks for the info!
