Hi my name is kelly i'm writing for concern of my husband. For 3 years now, he has been having sudden spells of severe abdomial pain for about 15 min then dairrhea. No consipation problems. My concern is he passes out on the commode every time. One time it happened at work and he hit his head pretty hard. Dr's haven't found anything to cause this, only say its spasmic colon. bentyl and levsin doesn't touch the pain he goes through. It happens so fast, then its gone for maybe 3-6 months before he has another spell. He's had UGI and barium swallow with neg. results.Tonight he did it again, and when he passed out he stopped breathing for about 30-45 sec. Does any body have any clue to what this sounds like? It's not a consant problem. And also his mother does the same. thanks kelly

kelly,
I know your problem has got to scare both of you very much and rightly so !!!

Spasms are mostly caused by lack of some minerals in your diet. Magnesium, potassium, sodium and calcium are the major ones but I hope your doctors has checked these out along with some trace elements.

Diarrhea can readily wash these out of your system if the diarrhea happens regularly. But, it shouldn't happen if this occurs evey now and then.

I am a believer in taking a water soluble fiber supplement daily to make your BMs are regular. Drink enough water with Metamucil----it's safe to take daily and is a stool bulk forming agent.

Also, start eating the best yogurt you can find with as many live active cultures that you can find where you live --- I like Stonyfield Farm the best because it contains 6 active cultures but there are others available--- just not organic.

I certainly wish your husband well and I hope ya'll solve this problem ---soon!!!

God Bless---Harry
