Hi everyone
I was just wondering if some women with IBS experience worsening of their symptoms just before their periods ?
I have noticed that about a week before every period time , i get so much bloating , horrible heartburn, ...etc and all the medicines become useless!

IBS will become worse before periods because it is to do with what is known as the progesterone effect. Before a period the level of progesterone rises to allow you to have a period and progesterone also has an effect on the smooth muscle lining of the gut, which makes your stomach a whole lot worse.

Why not try all the natural remedies such as acupuncture or homeopathy. They are great for things like this and they do work.

Sarah thanks for your reply
I always thought that the progesterone level falls before periods, but didn't know it had a link with the lining of the gut ! that explaines the change in the symptoms whether it is a fall or a rise.
I have read in some posts about camomille tea and tried it , it helped a bit.
I will consider homeopathy and see if it helps.
Thanks again
