I'm 18 and live in the UK, I had unprotected sex with my gf and just to be on the safe side I want to be checked out, I have a few questions though as I've never done it before:

1. Where can I get checked out (does your local doctor do this or are there special clinics) ?
2. If they take a urine sample, is it tested for all STD's or just specific ones such as clamydia or gonorohea (sp) ?
3. Is it free?
4. If I had unprotected sex last night, will they be able to tell if I have STD's if I sent a sample today ? Or should I wait a few days/weeks before I get tested ?
5. Are STD tests and HIV tests different ? Do I need to go somewhere else to get HIV tested ?

Thanks.

you get it done at a std clinc and your doctor can tell you where the closes one to you and no there do other test on you. yes its free i not sure if a std would show up the next day and you go to the same place for the hiv test but that does not show up right away anyway

I don't know about costs in the UK, but you can see any family doctor or go to a health clinic, which may be free.

Unless you start feeling symptoms, there is no hurry, though if you want to have sex with someone other than your current GF, you would be at risk of transmitting something. I would chill and not do anything right away, though using condoms in the meantime would be a great idea. If you are really worried, wait a week or two to get tested, though you will have to wait 6 months or so for an HIV test to be valid.

To test for HIV, herpes and the bacterial infections, they have to draw blood and probably take a swab inside your penis. Not fun, I hear. If you present with sympoms, they might simply give you antibiotics (much cheaper), which is why I recommend waiting to see if you have symptoms. If your GF would get checked, then if she is clean, you should be clean.
