I read on a website that it could be caused by a parasite but the research is relatively new. Meantime, do the things everyone else is doing to relieve the symptoms. I sometimes feel that noone can have it as bad as me and I have it bad and for many years. But I keep hoping and looking and will not give up. Regards. katalina999 05-04-2003, 12:25 AM i know how you feel. i've done the same thing - went from eating everything to severally limiting myself to what i can eat, just trying to avoid the symptoms. for years i thought there must be a way to get back to normal, how i used to be - symptom free. but now i've come to the realization that ibs will not go away, but what i can do is try and "manage" my symptoms; get some kind of control over it. this is what i've done so far: i've been writing a food diary for approximately 3 months (wrote down food eaten and symptoms); i eat things that i know won't make me sick. after being well for several days, i add 1 new food. as soon as i have symptoms i stop, write the symptom food on a list, and start again when i am well again. the only drawback is that maybe i am limiting myself from getting all the right nutrients that i need. so i am taking a multi-vitamin and calcium (since i can't have any milk products). Drea 05-05-2003, 12:47 PM hi, katalina999 How do you know you cannot have any milk products? Have you tried the active yogurt? If you would like to, and I have found it made all the difference in the world, over time, I can now eat some dairy, begin with small amounts & build up, start when you don't have to be in public, because g.a.s. at first is normal, just til you work up to it. Unless you have actually been diagnosed lactose intolerant or allergic? How are you getting along with the food diary? Are you able to add more foods? I think that is a great idea & too, good that you are adding vitamins. Minerals too? |
