Hi, I am new here and would appreciate your thoughts.

I have had IBS for about 10 yrs. The last year more severe and the last 4 mos really bad. I was in the hospital last week and they (of course) shot me full of painkillers etc

I take zoloft, xanax, fiber, propanolol, levbid (this is new) I was on bentyl. The doc also prescribed vicodin for the pain. He is a gastro.

The levbid is making me feel bad, very tired, not clear headed. Has anyone had this problem. Do you all take pain meds?

Also, they are talking about putting me on the drug that was taken off the market and just put back on, can't think of the name right now.

The gastro says I have severe IBS, he said I am in the 5% worse cases he has seen. What a thing to be good at.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

By the way, do you have trouble with your clothes fitting one day and not the next?

Wow. That is a lot of pain meds to be on and no, I have never taken any of these myself. Have you looked into the alternatives at all? If not, then maybe you should do.

Have you changed diet, cut out wheat and dairy and stuff like this? Do you take fiber therapy, Metamucil and Acidophilus?

Maybe look into this side of things and you could start to feel better.

Sarah,

Thanks for replying. I have changed the diet with no real results. Of course, there are foods that I just can't touch. But sometimes even when following it strictly it flares up really bad.

The doc added yet another med yesterday. Pamine for am to replace am levbid, and use levbid pm only. The pamine is not supposed to have CNS side effects like the levbid. Have you heard of this one?

Thanks, it is nice to know that I am not alone with this problem.

No, I have not heard of this. I have to say that I don't have problems any longer, as I used alternatives methods of treatment such as homeopathy, herbal medicine and acupuncture.

Go and consult an ND and try the alternatives to help you, rather than being filled up with loads of medication that has lots of side effects.
