View Full Version : Graves' Disease & IBS

Hi all,

My fiance' was diagnosed with Graves' disease last year and although the fluctuations in his thyroid and metabolic activity might explain some of his digestive malfunctions, I'm beginning to suspect that he has IBS too..

He was up all last night bloated, distended, sick to his stomach, constipated and generally miserable.. This happens fairly infrequently (probably once or twice every two months) since he changed his diet at the request of a surgeon that we saw during an emergency hospital visit when he was experiencing the same symptoms.. He was told to take fiber daily, drink plenty of water and cut down on his intake of sugars - all of which he's adhered too..

He generally forces himself to throw up and that relieves some of the pain (enough for him to "sleep it off"), but it didn't work this time.. He's still up, still miserable and I honestly don't know what either of us can do to make him feel better.. I would say that it's just the flu or food poisoning, but it happens too often to brush aside..

Anyway, I'm hoping that someone out there who suffers from IBS might be able to offer some self-help techniques or dietary advice or medical suggestions about how to deal with this.. Thanks in advance for your replies!

Take Care,
Melanie

I had those same symptoms of pain and tingling and chestpain. But, I was having other symptoms too,
numbness in my hands, achy joints. Everything I ate
upset my stomach. I was diagnosed with Lupus. Just
Something to check for. Read up on Lupus and see if
any of the possible symptoms fit.
