Hi can anyone help? I was diagnosed with Fibro three years ago now and no longer take any meds. No, not because I have no pain/sleep etc but because I can't find anything that helps.
I have a problem with my kidneys at the moment (see my other post in Kidney section) and I am wanting to get that sorted before starting on the treadmill of meds again.
So my questions are : does anyone else have any problems with kidney funtion? and what meds could help my fibro?
I have been through the normal pain meds and antipressants.
Thanks again for any help.

Welcome to the board. I've had good success with the guafenesin protocol. "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia" by Dr. St. Amand will tell you all about this protocol. Of course, you would want to tell your kidney doc about this before you decide to start guafenesin.

I also have a kidney problem that me and my doctor are working on and I've been hesitant to try prescription meds since I'm on a few now and hate to have more side effects. I read somewhere that if your on certain medications then you shouldn't take certain decongestant medications and I know the guifenesen protocol is also used as a decongestant/expectorant. The two meds I'm on for my kidneys shouldn't be mixed with the guifenesen. I just got a book my Dr. Tietlebaum called From Fatigued to Fantastic and he has a protocal for fibro but I'm not sure exactly what the program entails since I just started it. I know he's big on getting good sleep, correcting vitamin and hormonal deficiencies and supplements. I have found that simple carbs like white flour and sugar and too much saturated fat flare me up. You might try for now eliminating those. Also, even though I feel horrible I force myself to exercise very gently. I set a timer and walk in place or around the house for only ten minutes at a time a couple of times a day and do very gentle strengthening. Good luck to you.

Hi,
Welcome to the group. Take what we have to say and weed out the things that you think can will or will not help you. It's so great to be able to have so many views on common things.
Guifenesin put me in the worse horror and why I took it for 2 or 3 years is beyond me. I kept waiting for it to work. The first 2 months on it I laid on a mattress downstairs on the floor, because I couldn't get up and down stairs by myself. Because of the horrible reactions I got with it I cannot even take a dose of cough medicine or sinus medication with it in there. Just that 1 dose will have me in the potty pretty darned quick. Read up on this one first. A few people swear by it and I'm happy it works for them. There's good info on this on the old posts. There's so many great old posts and I hope that you newer members as well as older ones read through them every now and then. Sometimes I have something bothering me and remember reading about it somewhere on here and then I go back through again.
I take elavil, ambien and soma at bedtime, if i need it I can take soma 3 times a day. I have flexeril and morphine when I need them. Opiates give me nausea if I'm not lying down. I prefer nerve blocks, ablations.....a bit of uncomfortable is worth the months that it helps. Read up on types of medication and see if it's hard on the kidneys.
I have a great pain specialist as well as a wonderful primary doctor, I am blessed in that respect.

Hi there! I only have one kidney and recently had trouble with it. Aside from having a bunch of kidney stones, my function was off. I know that I can't take Topomax because it was affecting my kidney. We're not sure if was what was affecting the function but it was causing extra stones above and beyond what I normally produce so I had to stop taking it. It was unfortunate because I was doing really well on it, combined with the other meds that I take. This probably is't going to help your specific situation, but I thought I would share my experience. I hope that everything works out for you soon.
