I don't know what is happening to me, but going on 2 weeks now my body has been so stiff. Anytime I have to get up it's very painful. It's all over, but especially bad in my back and legs and shoulders. It is driving me insane. I can barely move. Is this just the Fibromyalgia or is something else going on? Does anyone know of any medications that might help the stiffness that I could ask my FM doctor about? I see him Wednesday. Something has got to give, I can't go on this way. I'm miserable. Thanks for all replies!

Hi, I know how you feel. I get this especially in my back and neck. Have you ever had an MRI on your back? I have two herniated discs in my neck and one in my low back, and I think that causes this for me, plus the fibro. You might want to bring it up with your doctor.
In the meantime, try a heating pad and/or ice pack and some Advil.

You have fibromyalgia....I take tramadol and percocet and at night i take flexeril 20mg. Stay warm. You can heat up a long rice sock in the microwave and drape it around your neck. warm baths help. My achiness is just in the morning and when the weather changes. Very rarely does it last all day for days at a time. I feel so sorry for you. My pain was worse at onset than it is now. How long have you had fibro? Make sure you take malic acid and magnesium. I couldn't believe how much this helped me. do some gentle stretching because if you don't move around it could cause other problems like chronic myofascial syndrome. You may want to get a referral to a pain mgmt doctor. i hope i helped and that your appointment goes well. You may have to explain and repeat. Make sure your doc understands the intensity of the pain and that you have had it for 2 weeks with no relief. write it all out if you need to...if you think you will cry, because if you cry, docs tend to think you have a mental illness. That has been my experience. I even drew a picture of my pain locations and just handed it to my pain mgmt doc and she started me on a treatment plan immediately. Prior to that, she kept wanting to talk about my depression and just thought i was nuts. Take care. Write it out and then let it go and try not to think about it. Just some advice, i don't mean to sound bossy, take what you can use.
Do you know what chronic myofascial pain is? It is knots in your muscles that keep your muscles from relaxing. This is common with people who have fibro. I see a pain mgmt doc for injections and pain meds and physical therapy as needed.

Thank you both so much for replying. Rosebuddy, the doctor I see Wednesday is my pain management doctor. He has me on Neurontin and Zanaflex. I was just finally officially diagnoised with Fibromyalgia in October but I've suffered with it for years. The stiffness has always been aggrevating but not to the point it has been these past couple of weeks. I am in misery. I feel like it's my muscles and joints both. I struggle so badly to get up from a sitting or lying position. It's very frustrating and painful. I'm a hot-blooded person and stay hot nearly all the time and I'm heat intolerant so it's hard for me to use heating pads or take hot baths. I mean, I even bought one of those indoor a/c units so I could have air conditioning in the winter lol. I burn up almost all the time. I don't know if that's a symptom of something or if it's just how I am. I will discuss the chronic myofascial pain with him Wednesday, thank you for telling me about it. There is still so much about this I don't know about or understand. I can use all the information I can get.
Rita, I have had several MRI's over the years on my back and neck. I have Degenerative Disk Disease and a very bad herniation at L5-S1 that is pressing on two nerve roots and the thecal sac. It caused me a tremendous amount of pain up until two years ago when I found a supplement called Celadrin. It does help with the inflammation from that disk pressing on those nerves. I also have a herniated disk in my neck. This stiffness is different from what I've suffered from those herniations. This is like it's my whole body. It's hard to explain. Just wide spread stiffness all the time. I guess it's just the Fibromyalgia, it's just really bothering me. I'm trying to take it one day at a time but it's getting hard when day in and day out it's the same thing. I just want some relief so I can live my life. I guess with Fibro we never really get that do we?
Again, thank you both for your replies and support. If the doctor tells me anything of consequence Wednesday I'll post it here. Thanks again.

Hi Jan..(I kept tryint to reply and instead of hitting reply button I kept hitting the Fibromyalgia(r-o-l-l e-y-e-s here...heavy sigh).
ANYWAY...Stiffness kills me..the only thing that helps me more than the rest of meds is Tylenol Arthritis...Celebrex did zero...I tried Vioxx before it was taken off the market and that made me sleep.
If I'm driving or riding in a vehicle for more than 10 minutes I know I'm in trouble so if I remember I take tylenol arthritis before I go anywhere.
Talk to your Doctor and let him know just how bad you are.
I need help in getting up and sitting down and wet weather is the worst:(
Take Care.

Please don't freak out. Scleroderma causes stiffness. I have a friend with FMS and she also has scleroderma. She does okay. Not only that, but just because I mentioned it does not mean you have this condition. ACK! I'm so sorry I upset you :dizzy:

I have severe stiffness that comes and goes with full moon, barometer, etc. but it does pass. I take robotussin DM which seems to loosen up the fluids and helps a little. I also take 3 ibuprofen and that helps some, but most of the time I just have to RIDE IT OUT until it passes. If yours does not pass, you need to talk to someone about that for sure. Stiffness is always with us with fibro when we get still, but it should pass after we get moving.
FEEL BETTER - I hate the stiffness the most.

So does Fibro and Anxiety though. I'm sorry your friend has that it looks so painful. But When you were talking about it I didn't know if you were talking to me or the person that made this thread. My doctor checked me out from head to toe. I think he would of mentioned something. I looked at the symptoms online before and my skin isn't shiny or thick. Sorry my anxiety makes me this way about diseases I get freaked it's not your fault.
and wow she has both. I have so much pain with just the FMS let alone any other disease.

You know It's confusing stiffness/muscle soreness and pain. I'm pretty much sore all the time but not to the point where I can't walk or open a jar. I manage ya know without meds I'm going the natural way or trying at least.

Well, I saw the doctor and he said based on two of my blood test results and my symptoms he believes that in addition to the Fibromyalgia that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis too. Gee thanks {sigh}. He said he thinks that's why I'm having such a problem with the stiffness, that I'm getting a double whammy, some from the Fibro and some from the RA.
The stiffness is just terrible. I am so tired of it. Just like you said Snickers, I hate it the most. I did ask him about Scleroderma and he said very adamantly that I did not have that. So that's one less thing to worry about.
I appreciate all of your replies and suggestions. Sometimes just knowing you aren't alone in all this helps so much.
