I had an ivp which showed a cyst on my kidney (which had grown approx 4 cm in 4 years). Why would the urologist move immediately to ct scan instead of ultrasound to find out what it is?
I recently had a bout of UTI, and some small trace of blood still in urine.

A CT scan is more accurate, and allows them to see everything much better, ultra sounds just give them the one view, CT scans show ever bit and piece of the kidney in slices, put it this way. Say you have an egg. an ultra sound would allow them to see the egg as a whole. a CT scan would show them the egg as if you had used a slicer on it, allowing them to see one layer, then the next and so on, so they dont miss anything.
