I'm so sorry. :( we are all here to help it must be so difficult when you have just had a baby. I don't take any meds I'm so scared of the side effects. you can take pamprin, tylonel, use heating pads, and empsom salt baths. Take care hope you feel better.

I am sorry that Lyrica and Cymbalta has not helped you, can I ask what dosage you were on? Those 2 meds have been a life saver for me. Have you tried Neurontin? Also, sometimes Ibuprofen 800mg helps.

HI all! I am beginning to wonder if I have Fibromyalgia. I just don't know. I already have hypothryroidism and low vitamin D right now. I am just sick of this. I ache all over and am so TIRED. I can barely function. I just want to curl up with the heating pad all the time. Any advice? And how do you test for it? Thanks!

sadly there is no test they do a tender point test and put force in those areas and if you react to 11 out of the 18 of them you will be diagnosed. If you do have it you will most like be referred to a rheumalogist. What are some of your other symptoms? Does it feel like a deep ache? Most people describe the pain is feeling brusied all over it's a wide spread pain. Mine first started out in my arm just for a second and It would be gone. then my stomach started hurting then my back etc, then it just snowballed from there. I'm not sure what is hypothryoidsm? I've never heard of that.

My advice in the mean time. take pamprin or Tylenol, Use heating pads, take hot showers or baths It does help with the pain for a bit. Take care!

Tedds83, The trigger points are just a place to start, personally I don't have very many trigger points, but I do have Fibromyalgia. I go to a Pain Management doctor, I do not like rheumatologist, they tend to classify it as arthritis, which it is not. My advice would be to find a good Pain Management doctor that BELIEVES in Fibromyalgia, some do not. There are meds that could possibly help you, such as Lyrica, Cymbalta, or Neurontin, Flexeril. Everything works different for everyone, so just keep presing if something does not work. My pain started in my shoulders, arms and feet. I could not sleep, my arms hurt so bad, and my feet felt like they had a fire under them. So be persistent, and oh yeah, not everyone has the same symptons, and my Doc said that not everyone has to have all the tender points. Good luck...

Thanks ladies! I will make an appt. and get tested. I do have Hypothyroidism. When it is not under control the symptoms are alot like Fibromyalgia. Lots of achiness and pain....but with Hypothyrodism you have other things happen like hair loss and digestive trouble. It is not fun. I have been dealing with this for 4 years. I hope I don't have to add Fibromyalgia to the list. Hang in there ladies. Thanks for your help!

My shoulders start to seize for about 10 seconds maybe once a month, its usually at night or morning after I have been sleeping for a bit. Is this the type of pain?

Thanks,
shelly

Hi I am 19 and I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia when i was 15. You will learn each person suffers differently and response differently to treatment. For the first two years it will be extremely hard trying new meds and therapies. I have only had one serious flare up in over a year. for one I went to a councelor, stress is the worst it increases your pain. If you have just been diagnosed you should consider seeing a councelor you will need to learn how to cope with your illness and accept it. this is your life it will be with you foreve. you are not alone and you are not different from everyone else. we are human. :) also I visited a nutritioist, first the doctor tested for blood sugar low iron etc. then based on the findings the nutritionist made me a custom plan. Eating healthy is very important, I had to cut out red meat it will increase inflamation. also caffine does not help. other thins i learned was eating a lot of potassium and b vitamins. i take a b6 to reduce muscle cramps. also i eat a lot of walnuts and yogurt. things like ensure vitamin suplements and slimfast bars help as well. your diet is key. the more weight you gain the more stress on your body and the more pain you will feel. I hope this helps. Also something that helped me, i had flare ups really bad with my periods, so i went on seasonel birth control. i only get my period once every three months that improved my flare ups a lot. but like i said you will need your own plan. I only use a pain killer once a month or so, what ever i am doing is working for me. i hope this helps you.

Hi Stormangel, I found your post very interesting. My pain started right after, if not during my pregnancy with my son. I haven't been right since then. He will be 16 this October. I just found this board a couple of weeks ago and the people here have been very helpful. It is also nice to know there is always someone out here that will listen. The best advice I can give is to make sure you find a doc that is both compassionate and educated when it comes to FM and then take it one step at a time (easier said then done, I know). Take care and have a good Wednesday. Kim

I was also recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and although I mentioned to my doctor that my mom has been on neurontin for 7 years and is doing awesome, she didn't want to start there. She also thought Lyrica was too 'new', so she started me on nortriptyline. I wasn't thrilled about it and I think its too soon to know if its working, but there are so many things out there that may help, but first you have to find a doctor who truly believes fibro is REAL.

I just started on Lyrica 5 weeks ago...I have put on a LOT of weight and have swollen gums. I am stopping it today as I have enough issues and going back to one or Tramacet/day until something else comes along. Good Luck to you!
