My dexa scan results show positive improvement!
Results: back was -4.5 now -3.3; hip was -2.4 now -2.2. I will follow up with doctor Tuesday.
I have changed my life in MANY ways during the last year in addition to the Forteo. Added good supplements of Calcium, Magnesium, Vitamin D,+ ; increased weight bearing exercise; changed diet some adding green smoothies, yogurt,.. healthy diet most of the time. Even doing some alternative health changes. Plus lots of Bible study, smiles.
A year ago I was doing some pilates, yoga & tai chi classes. Recently added step & total body conditioning classes which I love but take alot of energy. Hopefully they will get eaiser. I'm at the gym daily now & working hard. Still need to do more weight training.
I had to start so slow because of back surgeries, very limited conditioning & my bone condition had me scared. Now I enjoy hiking, weather permitting, & life. It's been alot of hard work but I am encouraged & hope this might encourage others.
Am open to suggestions or questions that I might ask my doctor. Thanks in advance, laura

Congrats, nice improvement on density. You might want to check with your doctor and see how you can maintain those gains once you're off forteo.

Thanks Todd500 - the doc has already said I will need something after Forteo. I will need to read this board & educate myself before I agree to anthing. I have read that the results may not last.... hope that's not true. I'm leaning towards lots of exercise & a good diet.

Congratulations on increasing your bone density. It took alot of hard work.
The only down side is that there aren't great alternatives for treatment after Forteo.

Green smoothies are easy to make & taste good too. I usually use 2 cups water, add a couple handfuls of spinach, kale, or the like; one banana or some grapes & other friut; 1 Tb of oil olive; some raw nuts, cashews or almonds. Blend in vitamix til smooth. Some days I'll add something like: Vitamineral Green powder, dulse, heepseeds, sesame seeds (very high in calcium), maca powder. The smoothies help keep the body alkaline which is good for the bones. Lots of recipes if you good green smoothies or in the book "Green for Life". They taste good, you taste the fruit. My friends are hooked on these also.

That is excellent news! My husband also got his DEXA results last week, after one year of Forteo. His total hip only went from -2.8 to -2.7, but his spine went from -3.5 to -3.0. We weren't expecting so much improvement because he hasn't been able to go to the gym in 7 months due to a rotator cuff injury. His weight has gone from 170 to 158 as a result of losing so much muscle mass.
Have you experienced much nausea? He gets it every day now. I keep telling him to do the injection before bed, but he has that 8 AM habit and doesn't want to risk waking up in the middle of the night feeling nauseous.
