I read it's supposed to be good for people with FM, that it helps with the aches and pains and depression. Anyone tried it? I think I'm going to give it whirl and see.

I would be very interested to know what benefit or lack of benefit you feel you get from taking SAMe. Please post your thoughts, opinions, etc... later on!

The actual name is S-adenosyl-L-methionine, but SAMe for short, pronounced "Sammy". What I've read about it says it's been shown to be effective in reducing chronic pain and depression associated with Fibromyalgia. It's also supposed to be great for the liver. I don't know how much information I can post here so I'll leave it at that. The only thing is that it can't be taken with SSRI's or SNRI's because there's a chance of a serious interaction so I'm tapering off my Pamelor so I can try it. The things I've read about it have really impressed me so I want to see if it will work like it's supposed to.

Hi jann71, I am taking Sam-e right now but so far I really haven't notice a difference, maybe a little more energy. I have only been taking it for about a mouth now so maybe it will start working better over time. I got mine at Walgreens, it's a natures made brand and it was on sale for buy one get one free. Let me know if you try it and what you think. :)

Hi, Is this a prescription drug or a supplement?
Jacqueline, it's a supplement that you buy over the counter.
Moetwins, thanks for the comment. I'm hoping it will help my energy as well. I look forward to taking it but have to wean off the Pamelor first, which I'm told takes a few weeks :(. Once I do get to take it I will post if it helps me or not.

I talk to my pharmacist yesterday about it, sound real good. I want to try it but it is kind of expensive , got to wait till the husband returns to work. The price of everything sure takes a toll on everyone. Can any one tell me what they pay in the states for this? It is about $30 Canadaian for 30 here. With all the other meds it becomes too much.

JacquelineH, Where I live a box of 30 costs $40 but at Walgreens they offer specials sometimes of buy one box get one free. It is pretty expensive but I have been taking it for about a month now and I haven't gotten any side effects like I did with other medications that I've tired. I hope that helps.

Well I started taking the SAMe 4 days ago. It said it might take 2-3 weeks to notice a difference. I'm really hoping it works like I've read that it's supposed to. I'll keep ya'll posted :D

Well sadly, for me at least, the SAMe was a bust. After being on it almost a month I didn't notice any good effects from it but what it did do was make me so dizzy and swooney headed that I had to stop it. It was getting dangerous for me to even try to walk thru the house it was so bad. It made my head feel really funny too. I don't know how to describe it. But when I stopped taking it that all went away. I hope it works really well for others out there that try it, but as for me, it's just one more thing that didn't help. :(

I HAVE NOT STARTED Sam-E yet, however I have started taking Prim Rose Oil, B-Complex, Magnesium, and Multi Vitamin. And in only 5 days I went from complete misery to having NO PAIN, lots of energy, and better mental well being. I also stopped all Rx meds on the same day.
My friends mother was told to use prim rose oil for MS and it helped her as well.

Hello, most vitamins and supplements can take 3-4 months to really kick in, i'v had some good luck with mine but i also take both prescribed (if needed) and supplements for that amount of time before i completely stay off the prescribed. This last time i went off the prescribed for two weeks and had a few problems so i went back to taking the prescribed (as needed) at my husbands request because i was hurting too much. Everyone is different and we never know whats going to cause a flair. I did a little work in my flower garden plus the weather was going from chilly to nice to a little rainy, chilly, a few nice days here and there. You get what I'm saying, we believe that's probably what caused it. But i will never give up trying to get off the meds permanently, if that's possible. This is the type of illness that you learn to live with in your own way in time. I wish there was one thing we could all take, so that we would never be in pain again
P.S. I also get my vitamins and supplements on line, i found them to be a better price, good luck
