View Full Version : Felt like passig a Bowling Ball

Hi

My IBS fluctuates between diarreah and constipation but generally I'm able to manage it through my diet and meds (Dicetel). Today I felt like I had to have a b/m. It was kind of like pebbles at first (which does happen to me on occasion as well) but then it was like I was passing a bowling ball. It hurt sooo much and I think I might have even torn a little when it finally came out (ouch!)

I started taking Acidophilus earlier this week - could that have caused this? The bottle said to take one pill with each meal.
I would really like to prevent this from happening again because it really hurt!

Any response is appreciated!

No, lactobacillus acidophilus could not have done that. Was anything different with the consistency of your stool? Color, blood, etc.?

It was bigger and maybe a little harder than usual.
At this point I'm moer concerned about what I could have torn. My bum really hurts!!

There is some hemorrhoid ointment that had a pain killer in it that you can put on your anus.

Your real problem sounds like you need to take a water soluble fiber supplement and make sure you drink enough water.

Usually pebble type stools indicate you're not drinking enough fluids and with the proper type of fiber intake your BMs will be softer and more gentle along with being regular.

I wish you well---Harry

Thanks for your help Harry!

I've been letting my diet go lately and I knew that I hadn't been drinking enough. I guess I should have caught it sooner. My IBS was acting up recently and sometimes I just lose interest in food when that happens. I guess I learned my lesson the hard way http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/eek.gif

I'm drinking A LOT more water now and my diet has improved! The cream has been helping too http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
