I just had a skin biopsy this last Friday and the dermatologist told me that I should purchase the Advanced Healing bandages from Johnson and Johnson. I did this and cannot take it off for about 3-5 days; however, there is white looking fluid where the excision has been done under the bandage. The bandage works GREAT because I have had no more pain since I have applied the bandage and the redness around the excision has diminished since I removed and cleaned the neomycin from the area.
Note to everyone, do not apply neomycin to excisions as it may irritate the area and cause alot of pain and redness! The CMA told me to do this to begin with and I had to go back after a few days (today) and have it cleaned.
Anyways, just wondering if this white fluid is part of the first phases of healing. Thought it may be scar tissue building up. If this is the case, I need to remove the bandage asap and clean the tissue from the wound as I do not want it to further prevent healing fast. Please respond soon! Thank you.

I have never used one of these bandaides so can't be any help, sorry. What exactly is on the bandaide? I am going to be having a growth from my face removed and will have to ask my doc.

See, I was just using regular bandages that I had to keep removing which was really irritating my skin but this bandage has to stay on about 3-5 days before removal. The bandage box states that there is no medication in the bandaid, just that it works with your skin to promote healing by preventing scarring by preventing scabs. I am not so much concerned with the healing than I am with the scarring and possible Keloids. Thanks.

My doctor just told me to remove the bandages the next day. The stitches were bothering me, so I just used a large bandaid, with no healing lotion, and it worked fine.

I had a quarter size open hole biopsy and another one with stitches. I was told to use Aquaphor a light coating twice a day. ( after stitches came out.) I know plastic surgeons recommend this. Have never used the bandaids. Judy

Oleander,
sounds like you had a great surgeon. Mine never told me anything about how to care for my scar.
