Hello. I am new here, and honestly so glad to have found a place where I might actually get some advise from others who have gone through the same thing. Anyway, I had a baby in August and suffered a 4th degree laceration. They repaired it right away, but the surgery broke down and needed to be repaired again. I met with a urogynocologist who told me that the only way to get this fixed was to have a sphincteroplasty. I had to wait for 8 weeks and then in October had the surgery. I am now post op about four months and still having difficulty with bowel continence and may possibly have a fistula from the sphincteroplasty. I have no idea what I am doing. I try to do research on my own to come up with questions for my appointments to no avail. I feel like I am speaking english and the docs are speaking Italian. I catch enough to feel confident at the appointment, but then the doubt slips in when I get home. I honestly don't know if there are other ways to fix this problem, but I know that I really can't stand the gas passing vaginally, nor can I continue to shower after each BM. I mean I really can' t do that. I am a teacher, 8th grade, so really if I have to go I have to go home for the day. I am so embarrassed about all of this and I feel so alone! I just need a little support, and a little advise about where to go next. If any of you have advise, or even a few words of comfort, that would be wonderful! My husband tries, but he just doesn't get it. No one does.

Thanks,
Milesmom

Hello, you have my sympathy with this problem as it is an unpleasant thing to have to live with, but take heart from the fact that a fistula is repairable with the right procedure. You are not alone in your suffering but you will probably get support and all the helpful information you need from the fistula support group.

Good luck, kennyboy.
