I have had this burning, gripping pain under my left rib for months. I have had a CAT Scan, MRI, and x-rays. They can't find anything. My gastro doc says she doesn't think scoping me would help. I started a 50% raw food diet plus juicing and that has helped somewhat. At least the pain isn't constant at this point. My doc thinks I have an ulcer but my plyori test was negative. She now wants a CAT Scan of my ribs. The pain has now gone to under my right rib but not near as severe. I am at a loss as where to go from here. Advice would be appreciated.

I have a pain off and on under my right rib and it has started under my left rib, doctor thinks it is muscular but I am not convinced. Worse when I am more active and bending over.

I had gallstones and I had referred pain, it was under my left side...my DR couldn't beleive it. I had surgery and I have not had any problems with it. I would ask for an ultrasound.

I am new to posting on this board, but have been reading a while. That pain under the left rib cage is my problem too. It sent me to the ER 3 times in May and the doctors were acting as if I was crazy. Morphene was the only thing that could stop it. I literally cried like a baby from one episode. It is a sharp contant pain that goes straight to the back from under the left ribcage. I just had a CT scan, will get results on Tuesday and a Colonoscopy which the doctor said looked good. It seems like these episodes come on real bad after any kind of protein, meat, eggs. Doc says I have IB - D. Is there a disease for the inability to digest protein?

Two thoughts:
Of course the ribs are all connected with ligaments that can inflame and joint connections that can become arthritic.
More importantly though, Pancreas is under the left ribcage. A case of pancreatitis can hurt for a long time. Has your MD checked it out well?

Hello..
I was just reading through the postings. I am usually on the Fibromyalgia board but was trying to find some answers to this exact question. Why does my left side of my rib case hurt so much? I have Fibromyalgia, which with, that comes a host of symptoms and because I have been having bowel issues, I assumed that was why my rib cage hurt. I asked my Doctor about it and he checked me out a bit and said it was just part of the Fibro. After reading these postings, I think I need to push for more.. Thank you so much! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
