I've been reading around (for a while) and just want to get an idea of the steps people use while trying to conceive. (I'm 33). I'm familar with the opk's and charting, but what are the next steps? I've read about people taking robitussin and clomid, but when should you attempt to go that route? Thanks.

Best thing to do by far is get a copy of the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility and read it. It has TONS of info and suggestions for ttcing. It will also tell you the steps to take on your ttcing road.

taking Robitussin you can do anytime if your CM is a bit thick. I took it the past few times TTC and I did get a BFP. I'm not sure if it helped, but everything I've seen is that it doesn't hurt.

Clomid is for specific fertility issues. How aggressive you want to be really depends on your timeline. Since you're under 35, you still have some time. But if you suspect a problem it doesn't hurt (if you have the money) to see an infertility specialist. They can check your hormone levels (2 times in your cycle) do an ultrasound to see how your uterus and ovaries are doing, and do a sperm analysis. If you've been trying consistently for a year, then it's probably a good time to go. But it's totally up to you and your preferences.

I saw an infertility specialist and that same month I got a BFP! Her suggestion was to not chart, but just BD on CD 11, 13, 16, 18 with a cycle of 28D and possible ovulation of CD 15. I did a OPK and it was really faint on CD 14 and even fainter on CD 15. Even OPKs are not totally accurate. My hormones were fine so I didn't need any treatments, but we're checking my DHs hormones which are off (but good enough!)

The next step would be to get checked. You may need drugs or assisted reproduction. There are many options for that as well.

Thanks for responding guys. I went to Borders this weekend and bought the Taking Charge of Fertility book. This thing is lengthy, lol. I haven't really gotten to the juicy parts yet.

I know everything is probably ok with me but it was just so easy with our first, I just assumed it would be super-easy this time as well. I do still have 3 uterine fibroids and when my gyno looked at them last September, she said that I would probably need surgery or I would have a hard time maintaining a pregnancy. But then I had her look at my ultrasound pics from 5 weeks pg before and I had those same fibroids so then she just shrugged.

I've used the opk's for 3 months now, temps for the past month, and I've been checking the cervical mucus. Everything is textbook, down to the 28 day cycle. The only thing I haven't been doing is a LOT of bd'ing. (DH has major back problems). BD'ing though on CD 11, 13, 16 and 18 sounds like a good idea (and fun!). CM seems fine so should I not bother with the robitussin? (does Walgreens Waltussin work?). It's only been 3 months so I don't think (at least not yet) that there's a fertility issue (hopefully) so I guess Clomid is a no-go. If needed though, my insurance does pay up to $20,000 for fertility treatments so that's a good thing.

I guess DH and I better better get with it. I will definitely try your theory Karen for the next couple of months and if I'm still not pg, then I'll worry. Thanks.
