For the past 19 years I have been dealing with ibs. Always bad stomachaches ending in diahrrea. Then I started taking a medication for an inflamed stomach called carafate. That seemed to constipate me a little bit. A welcome change. Anyway, here are my questions:

Can constipation cause gas to get trapped? I have a hard time burping and passing it the other way.

Can trapped gas cause nausea?

Can really bad cramps cause nausea?

Can gas get trapped at night while sleeping? I seem to be okay until I wake up about 4 am, then all these loud noises start the minute I change positions. Then all I can do is doze off and on til about 6 when I start cramping. Then when I actually get up it goes away and usually ends in a normal non painful bowel movement. But occasionally, like this morning, the cramps were so bad they made me nauseous and reached up into my chest. So it was like my whole digestive tract was one big cramp. I have gone to the bathroom two times and the second time was loose toward the end. The gas if I do manage to pass it usually smells bad (excuse me) like rotten eggs or something.

My last question is does anyone ever notice a change in their bowel habits or stomach problems in the spring and fall? My doctor has told me that people who have problems with these things tend to be worse in the spring and fall. Anyone else?

Please help if you can. What does cause the nausea in people with stomach and bowel problems? Also does the color of the bowel movement mean anything?

Thanks for reading. I really need help to know if this is okay.

Most trapped gas is caused by swallowing air but the gas that smells is caused by putrification bacteria.

Gas can cause nausea, spams as well as abdomenal cramps. If the gas is trapped in your stomach it presses on the pneumogastic nerve causing nausea. You can try taking Gas X for the swallowed air taken within half hour after eating and eat yogurt and take a probiotic supplement to help re-balance your intestinal friendly bacteria.

Your digestive system never sleeps-- it works also at night so you can get spasms and cramps at night.

An excellent homeopathic remedy that helps spasms as well as cramping is Magnesia Phos-- you can get it at most health food stores. Just take it like is says on the container when needed.

If you are not taking a water soluble fiber supplement --- you should. It will make your BMs regular and gentle witout straning.
But, if you take Metamucil it will cause gas at first but the gas will go away as your body gets use to it. The gas is caused by fermentation since it is digested just like food.

Just start off slow before increasing the dose and drink enough water with each dose!!!

The spring and fall seasons changes alot of things including activities as well as allergies for me.

God Bless---Harry
