I have a question for the women. Obviously with IBS we strain a lot on the toilet, which I am assuming also strains the vaginal muscle. Mine has gotten to where it feels so tight over the past year, that intercourse is extremely painful! If my husband and I don't have sex for a while, then when we do, it feels like I'm losing my virginity again, it is so tight and painful. Does anyone else experience this? I talked to my gynecologist but she didn't have any answers that really applied to what I'm feeling. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

I have the same problem, but I always thought that maybe it's because I have never given birth. Now it makes me wonder.

I have never had any kids either. But it didn't used to hurt. I have had IBS pretty bad for about six years, and the painful sex thing has only been going on for about a year. But it feels like it's the muscle. Sometimes when I strain a lot in the bathroom, my vaginal muscle aches, too. Which is why I think that's the problem. Anyone else dealing with this stuff????

Vegasgirl, I have IBS and have had problems with painful sex happening out of nowhere too. Many times I have wondered if my IBS was at all related and if anyone else has experienced the same thing.
I have only seen sexually active for about 6 months but a month into it I started having really bad pain.
I saw my Dr. about it several times and he finally started listening to me and did some tests. He said that for some reason my cervix looked inflamed. He swabbed for a bunch of things and treated me for b/v and a yeast infection while I waited for my test results to come back. All of my tests came back clear and the pain remained even after the cream he gave me to use.
What is your pain like? I would get really aroused before we did anything and once we started it almost felt too tight and like there was a lot of friction. We tried with lube, without lube, with and without condoms as well as non latex condoms. Nothing seemed to help.
Then, about a month ago the pain went away about as mysteriously as it came. Things have been great since then but I still don't know what brought it on or made it go away and I'm kind of worried that it will return.

My pain isn't cervical, it just feels like it's REALLY tight upon entry. Almost like I'm losing my virginity over and over and over. For the record, I'm 32 and happily married. Not like I just started having sex or anything. LOL! I just figure the straining w/ IBS tightens up the vaginal muscle too much which causes the pain.

I didn't realize it, but I have had all of the symptoms mentioned in these postings. I am constipated a lot, but I have bouts where I go two or three times a day. When this occurs, I usually get the tears in the anal area that are very painful. I thought they were hemmorhoids, but have found out it comes from IBS. As far as the tightening of the vagina, this also happens quite often. More than I would like for it to, because it causes the vagina to get very dry and it sex is very painful.

I also have IBS and for years I have painful intercourse just at the point of insertion. It's like it hits those bones down there. After my husband is in then I'm okay. I also have the anal fissures or tears especially when my doctor had be on Zelnorm. That gave me terrible diaherra so I went off of it.

You have to consider too, your vagina and uterus is surrounded by your intestines. I don't think it has anything to do with your vaginal muscle being tighter, but your intestines surrounding it are in an uproar most of the time, which would make sense that your vagina and uterus would be affected.
