OK..I have been constipated for 5 days now, and when I have the urge to go how do I know if it's real?? Like they say you are not supposed to hold it in, but honestly..I can't go through the immense pain and suffering if it's not going to happen. It's so frustrating. And yes I have increased veggies, fresh fruit, fibre and oils, and drinking my water. When will this begin to subside?? OUCH

Sounds to me like you have an impaction and the fiber oil and water are just queuing up behind it because with that diet you should have no problems shifting things through. Are you on medication of any sort because that and other things can cause constipation.

You might tear your sphicter muscle in shifting it so I'd get checked out by your doctor who might feel suppositories is what you need. Alternatively you could always try douching your colon if it feels blocked and try to wash that hard bit out. After five days without defecation the stool that is blocking your exit must have had most of its water absorbed by your bowel and will be dry. It might be like breaking a dam when you finally shift it and will probably follow with diarrhea. You must be feeling terribly bloated. My sympathies to you.

You know..I don't feel the least bit bloated, sick, tired, I feel fantastic, except for when I have the urge to go! What do you mean by the stool absorbing the water and making it dry..wouldn't that make it soft?

You misread me. The colon absorbs the water from the stool making it hard and dry particularly that first bit that is causing you the problem. But take care you don't tear your spincter muscle as an anal fissure is a real nuisance to have to deal with. Go see your doctor is my advice.
