well the prep wasn't as bad as I had imagined.
I was awake (I think) when they tried to pass the scope into my stomach, I remember pain and panic and the Dr's face and him saying "your ok, your ok"..and then the feeling of the scope being removed.
I don't remember any of the colonoscopy at all.
He took some biopsies and reported that he saw some "duodenal villous atrophy"...what is this? Anyone know? I've looked online but can't find much. I also have this ache in the center of my chest, beneath my breastbone, radiates to my back. Is this just normal irritation from the scope??

I think what he is talking about is the tiny hairlike projections called villi are damaged or defective. I didn't know they were present in the duodenum but in the small intestines. Could he see the problem??? I thought they have to take a biopsy of the tissure.

When a person has celiac disease, the villi of the small intestines get damaged because of eating-- gluten that is in wheat, oats, rye and barley. The way it is diaganosed is with a biopsy to detect the damage???
Please ask your Doc and let us know??

Villi is plural of villus--- I think??
