Please help - Sex Drive went from 99mph-0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi. I am new to the boards, but have been reading as a bystander for quite some time. I have been seeing my boyfriend for 4 years and I am completely crazy about him. He is adorable, funny, sweet and also pretty good in bed! When we first started dating I decided to go on the pill, my Dr. prescribed Yasmin. Everything was fine for the first 3 1/2 years. Now, all of a sudden my sex drive has slowed down to a virtual hault. I still enjoy sex and will still initiate it, but no where near as much as I used to. I don't get that same feeling anymore the way I used to. I know it is because of the pill and I am considering either stopping completley or asking my Dr. to switch me to another pill. I have read that all BC pills have lowered libido as a potential side effect. I don't have a problem with just using condoms, but I am scared that we will have an accident and I will get pregnant. I don't want my boyfriend to get frustrated with me, I want to feel like having sex every night like we used to. Now its about once a week. It's always very good and during the act I still feel satisfied ... but usually the thought of having sex doesnt turn me on anymore.
Does anyone have and suggestions or ideas or has anyone been through this before?
thanks.

Well, it is strange that you would just start to have that side effect after all that time. Usually side effects will start to occur within the first six months. I suppose anything is possible, though. The pill lowers the libido by lowering your free testosterone. Maybe yours took a little longer to lower? You could try switching brands and see if that helps. While it's true that all pills have the potential to lower sex drive, some are better than others in this regard. Keep in mind, too, that everybody's body chemistry is different. What works for one person may not work for you and vice versa. You just have to find what works best for you. Good luck, I know it's frustrating. :)

I would definetly go to my doctor and maybe switch pills? I would also maybe get tested fo other things that can affect your sex drive just to make sure everything is healthy. Good luck i'm sure it will get better!

thanks for the responses. I have stopped taking my current pill after I got my last period, so it has been about a week and 3 days. I am going to see how I feel this month and also talk to my doctor about being on a different pill.
I just feel bad bc my bf wants to all the time and i just don't, I dont want him to leave or get upset with me. It is frustrating for him also.
