I've been having minor aspiration problems lately. I have no trouble chewing or swallowing a piece of steak or a sandwich or a bagel. The biggest problem seems to occur when I'm having soup or cereal. I often start coughing from inhaling liquid. This is new for me and started maybe 6 months ago. Anyone else have this? Has anyone else talked to there neurologist about it? I'm going to MD clinic in a month and I'll bring it up. That probably means more appointments and tests. Yippee! :)

Hi Mark --
Do a different degree, yes, I sometimes have problems like you describe. My problem is not usually with liquids though. I find that I just sometimes have difficulty swallowing certain foods and such. Rice is a big problem for me and I have no idea why. When I'm eating something like rice, I need to be very careful or I could choke on it.
I do find that I sometimes choke on my own spit. I know that sounds gross, but it does happen. I'm not sure what's causing that, but I think it is an aspiration problem like you describe.
I spoke to my neurologist about it and because it's not severe, we're just watching it. There are some MD's where swallowing difficulties are a symptom.
Please keep us posted. I'd be very interested in knowing what your doctor says about this new development.
