That depends on when you started taking it in your cycle, and if you have been taking it correctly all 8 days.

If you started taking it on the first day of your period (Day 1 Start method), you're protected right away. If you started taking it on the Sunday after you're period started (Sunday Start method), then you must use a backup method of birth control for the first seven days. After that, you're protected. As the other poster stated, it must be taken correctly every day, at the same time every day.
