I am confused as to which SHOT you are talking about ym? I just had my LEEP on the 4th and it was not bad at all. There was no shot that I am aware of. I was under general anesthetic during the procedure which took place in an operating room.

I have not had any hemoraging (sp?) nor much problem at all. I have had some drainage and/or brownish discharge but the doc mentioned this was very normal... as long as no strong odor is accompanying it.

I got my pathology reports back and it showed that instead of mild/moderate dysplasia... some areas were severe. However, the margins were clear so they got it all. YM, that's why there are additional tests from the LEEP... to make sure they got all the bad areas.

Why do you need to hide it from your parent? It's not a disgraceful procedure.. it's a safety issue!!!

TO Bev...
They told me that they were going to numb that area only...They dont put you all the way under...So that is what Im afraid of!!! I know it is a safety issue...but my parent dont know that Im sexually active..plus explaining that I have cervical dyslpasia due to an STD would not be something they want to hear

The reason I was put under all the way is a doctor's preference. I have read on here and in conversations with friends that others have just had the in-office procedure part done.

Are you have the colposcopy or the LEEP? Did you already have the colposcopy? When I had that... they told me that they would numb the area before taking the samples... they put a topical solution on it. However, the shot will not hurt. It can't be any worse than the biopsy samples being taken... and that's repeatedly.. not just a single shot. The cervix doesn't have THAT many nerve endings.

There is always the chance that the cells can come back as abnormal again/dysplasia. That is why precautions need to be made... as in trying to keep sexual partners to a minimum to avoid further STDs, not smoking (which I am not very good at adhering to)....etc.. That is why you will be placed on a 3 month pap smear cycle until a year of normal ones... it's all precautionary.

Hope this helps. And, please ask detailed questions such as these to your doctor, I am not one.. and do not claim to be an absolute source. :)

sorry for the double post.

You asked what happens if it comes back... well, if it comes back.. you will just need to have the procedure done again. You don't want to 'not' do it, as then.... cancer could set in.

Please don't be scared/nervous. It's a simple procedure... heck, I was 'under' and it only took 30 minutes from the time I was knocked out... to when I woke up. :round:

I had the colpo done with the biopsy...oh man that hurt...no numbing spray...it felt like they got tweezers and picked a piece of my skin off...It hurt bad...Put for my Leep pro. they said that I would get local anesthetic shot in the cervical area....Ouch and then the wire loop would remove all the abnormal cells...Did they say anything about fertility being diminshed!!! My info on paper says that fertility could be diminshed.

TO ym:

I specifically asked if fertility/having children would be affected by this procedure. They stated that it would not be. The only time it could be inhibited is if you do not follow the 'after' advice that they tell you (i.e. waiting 4 weeks before anything inserted in vagina) or if you over exert yourself in the first couple weeks... as scarring can cause issues.
