I've never heard of it being used for fractured bones. Skelaxin is a muscle relaxer, but if your doctor prescribed it for you, he/she must feel there is some benefit in you taking it. Did they say anthing about there being muscle trauma as well?

I've heard a broken/fractured tail bone is terrbibly painful. Hope you feel better soon!

I have never fractured my tailbone, but I have been diagnosed with coccyxdynia(fancy word for tailbone pain) and the skelaxin didn't do a thing for the pain. I have a compounded topical med that works miracles for this pain. I am also on pain meds but sometimes even they don't touch my tailbone pain. This compound is great!! It has ibuprofen, ketoprofin, carbazopine, amitriptiline and ketamine.

When I "broke my tailbone" the doc explained that the three bottom bones are fused and that at the joint above the bone moves either forward or back. The fix for it is for it to go back in place. The skelaxin can relax the muscles and allow that to happen. Because of the pain you hold muscles tight trying to prevent it which defeats what needs to happen. If it doesn't reset itself they may reset it for you -- he said rectally.

Skelaxin is not a pain reliver I would take something over the counter to help with the pain. Also if you can stand someone to gently rub it if it is flipped forward this may help it ease back into place.

All I can say if I understand it to be some form of communication blocker betweent he brain and body or something like that and not muscle relaxor for sure. It can affect the nervous system, and with me, it caused a feelking of having ben-gay or sun tan temperature problem on my arms/upper body, I'm now off of it and will see how long this annoying side effect lasts,. This drug causes charlie hoses and leg/feet spasms as well.

This makes sense to me. I fx mine some 30 year ago, and it was one of the most painful things I have had to endure. As I remember, they prescribed percocet and I was unable to do much for a week. Thankfully I did NOT have to have mine reset.:bouncing:

In all of my exploring, everything I found does indicate that skelaxin is indeed a muscle relaxor. I'd be interested to know more about it.

Best of luck to you. Hang in there!
