Hi,

Polycystic Kidney Disease is a genetically inherited disease that causes cysts to form on the kidneys. Due to the cysts, the kidneys become enlarged and are not able to function normally because of these cysts. If these cysts burst, then it can cause a lot of pain and blood to be passed in the urine.

A lot of people with this will have regular check ups at the hospital to monitor their bloods - urea and creatinnine levels and blood pressure.

Not everyone ends up in renal failure, but some do. Eating a low potassium and sodium diet can help this, as this kind of diet does not put too much pressure on the kidneys.

Have you had tests for the disease yourself? It is genetically inherited, so there is a possibility that you may have it too.

Hope this helps?

Good luck

Sarah
