Hi all! Well, I've tried this again and on Friday the 6th it will be two months without a cigarette and no slips. I give the credit for this to two great mental health people that I've been seeing(therapist and psychiatrist) who I faithfully go to and actually started seeing in November. I definitely have mood issues that have kept me relapsing from time to time and my self medication is the good old cigarette. I also give huge credit to the smoking cessation group that I go to as much as I can, but I really want to thank everyone on this board especially because this is the first avenue that I tried when I reached out for help and support.I have had a lot of issues that I've mentioned on other boards on the site regarding my mood battles and the meds that I've been taking and this has been most helpful. I guess I just wanted to say thank you to everyone and God bless everyone in their own particular battles with this demon and congrats to anyone who makes it through the first hour without a smoke. Be well and take care--Hopeto--

Hi Jean & L-Mom! Thank you so much for all your support and encouraging words. I will not lie--this is not one of the easy things that I have ever tackled in my life and I swear also that the round-the-clock support has helped immensely plus the meds that are helping to keep me sane. You know what stinks? I am on my third round of antibiotics for a chronic case of sinusitis and an ear infection and I did not have one cigarette to cause this!!! When I was smoking everything was suppressed and never got a sinus infection until after I tried to quit! LOL!! Talk about the devil being at you 24-7! I went to my smoking cessation group Wed. nite (there was only two of us there with the leader) and the other person in the group was like me--can't get past the 3 month mark without relapsing. I have, however gone to close to 6 months but it has always been the darn depression that would kick in. It's harder when you've stopped every addictive habit that there is and have begun to start your life over again over 50 years of age. Luckily, I have found real support and camaraderie in this group and I will always be grateful. Thanks so much and God bless--Hopeto

Hopeto.. keep up the great work you can do it!!! As far as the sinus infections go get tested for allergies. My son has chronic allergies and also sinus infections because of it. His Dr prescribes antibiotics for 15 days instead of 10 and said that these days he's hearing that most adults should be prescribed antibiotics for 21 - 28 days as it's getting harder and harder to treat sinus infections. We also have tried netti pots and sinu rinse which have both been very helpful.

Hope this info helps

Hi L-Mom! I have had every allergy test there is and have been getting allergy shots for a year an a half for dust, dog and cat, and spring and fall mixes. This is suppose to benefit me so that I wouldn't have to take Claritin or Zyrtec or any other antihistamine. I have the feeling this is not working evidently. I have one of those sinus rinses in the house and have used it once. It felt pretty good, but I guess I'll have to do it more frequently. I am getting a ct scan next Friday so they can give me the low down on that, too. I feel like a little kid again--I was always sick then, too! LOL! Take care--Hopeto

Hopeto - Keep up the good work. Sorry about your sinus infections, I also thought I was healthier when I smoked (how stupid is that??) - I know I was skinnier for sure.....I feel healthier in my lungs, but the weight is slow to come off. UGH.

Hi Skimmer! Well, I got the results from my sinus ct scan and it was fine but now my acid reflux is horrible from the postnasal drip and excessive eating habits I have. The allergist prescribed Zantac and Prilosec because I've got hives also from the stomach thing. The fact that I take a small amount of Lithium also cuts my stomach up also. I don't have time to smoke--I'm too busy feeling crummy and going to the doctor! LOL!! God bless and take care--Hopeto--
