My question is am I still going to be protected during the inactive pills if I'm not going to start on the pill again?

I know that when I'm regularly taking the pill I'm still fully protected during placebo week. But if I'm not going to restart the pill after finishing this cycle am I still protected all 7 days?

I've been on the combination birch control pill for 11 months after the end of this pack. I was on Ortho Cyclen for 9 and then switched to Desogen for the past 2.

The pill gives me horrible depression and anxiety (at least I hope it's the pill...) and I'm going to stop taking it and start using condoms and spermicide.

Please help, thanks  :)

You won't be protected with the unactive pills unfortunately, those are "sugar pills" as some doctors call them. It's a placebo that has iron and sugar in it,you take those the last week on your pack so you can begin your menstrual cycle. You don't have to take the placebos, but it's good to so you keep track of when to start a new pack.Sometimes patients think that they could possibly skip there period and keep on with the birth control,it doesn't work all to well because your body needs to have a mentrual cycle. You can still get pregnate on your period, and even if your on birth control, some patients do.

If you were to start up your next pack, the you'd definitely be protected. Woman on the pill ARE protected during the placebo part of their cycle because their cycle is been controlled by taking the pill (taking it properly, of course).

But since you won't be restarting, I wouldn't trust it for more than a few days (until your period starts). After that, I wouldn't risk it.
