A couple of nights ago as I was brushing my teeth I noticed rough edges and looked in the mirror. An upper tooth on the outside of it had a piece missing. I think a large white colored filling, square shaped fell out. I don't remember it happening nor could I find the piece.
I was out of town so I bought over the counter filling material and covered the hole up because it was large, very close to the gum line and seemed pretty deep. It looked icky.
I go to my dentist tomorrow~I wonder if I made a mistake by not going to a dentist right away where I was visiting. The tooth doesn't hurt that much but the gum seems to be reacting to the filling material. Can the dentist get the temporary filling stuff off without tearing my tooth and the ones next to it apart since I did a sort of sloppy job? How will it be removed from my gums without damaging the skin?
Has anyone dealth with this before, I'd be interested in hearing from you. Thanks

Don't be worried at all, that temporary stuff is very easy for a dentist to remove.

The good news is that it was a filling and there were no complications, the dentist just put a new filling in. Whew. I was worried I needed a root canal or something more. The filling was more than 10 years old. All well now.
