I don't think there's such a thing as across the board lexapro insomnia because I was on Lexapro for a few years and didn't get insomnia. It could be that it just affects some people this way. Different SSRIs effect different people different ways (for example Lexapro did not prevent my major depressive episodes so I stoped taking it).
I'd talk to your doctor. Any side effects that last longer than a week or so might mean it's not a good drug for you. Especially insomnia--which worsens depression. It could be that your insomnia is not related to the lexapro but that you are still experiencing depression and need a sleeping pill for awhile.
talk to your doc.
best of everything.

Lexapro caused insomnia for me as well and I was up all night reading. When I did fall asleep I fell asleep so heavily that I could not wake myself up. When I did finally wake up, I was really really awake. I tried the Ambien to regulate my sleep pattern, but after 3 or 4 days on the Ambien/Lexapro combo I crashed big time and my depression came back worse than before. I stopped the ambien and within a couple days I felt much better.
