My mom, who has been a very normal person her whole live has (in the last year) been experiencing psychotic episodes and is getting worse daily. She is 78 years old. She is alert and oriented 3x. Her memory is completely intact. Her behavior resembles symptoms of schizophrenia with delusions, hallucinations, and paranoia. She had been hospitalized against her will at least three times in the last seven months, once for going on a slow speed chase hitting other vehicles, including four police cars before she was taken into custody. Initially she was diagnosed as bipolar which I can't see, since it doesn't "fit". She was totally independent previously, and again in the last year we tried an ALF and then their memory unit (Secured section), neither of which have been appropriate when she acts out. She is screaming for her independence back and does not accept that anything is wrong with her. She is currently in a behavioral health center to be stabilized. She refuses medications for mental health but is getting Geodon by injection. These are very late onset symptoms - could it be something physiological?

gosh,
based on my few week's experience on this website, I think your question might be beyond the knowledge/capabilities of most of the regular folks (like myself) who post here. This really seems a question that only a doctor can answer. That's probably why nobody's answered you yet. But I'll keep my fingers crossed that somebody with a similar experience/knowledge will answer your post.

I wish you everything good for you and your mother.
