My doc prescribed prednesone today for my inflammation in my wrists. I have heard a lot of bad things about it.
How dangerous is it ?

In the short term prednisone can be a wonder drug and some lucky folks have no side effects from it at all, let's hope you fall into that category!

Do try to keep your time on it as brief as possible (do not stop taking prednisone suddenly), watch for side effects, add a extra glass of milk to your diet to counter act the possible calcium stealing effects, you may be more prone to colds/flu while taking it and for sometime after, you may be prone to more serious side effects if there's a family history of mood disorder (depression, bipolar, etc).

Personally, I hate prednisone. :p I get every side effect and then some, but as long as you're careful and aware of the side effects you should be fine.

My only caveat, if you yourself have/had depression or (especially) bipolar disorder - the risks are too great - talk to your doctor about other medications.
