My Mother-in-law will be scheduled to have a stent put in place for dialysis soon. She doesn't know when the dialysis is to begin or the date of the stent surgery yet. Anyone that has experienced this could you offer some words or encouragement or let me know maybe what to expect in the days to come? She is pretty scared and nervous about it and I would like to be as reassuring as possible to her. She has many things medically wrong with her and her kidney failure is really depressing her now. Any thoughts or words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by stent for dialysis? Do you mean that she is having a line inserted or what we call a fistula formation? A fistula is normally made at either the wrist or the elbow and is the joining together of two vessels, an artery and a vein so that dialysis can take place. The fistula is then left to mature for about a month to six weeks before being needled and once you start to develop it along its length, the vein should slowly take on the properties of the artery and you can eventually get much higher pump speeds on the dialysis machine than you can through a line.
A line insertion is quite a bit easier and there should only be temporary soreness following this procedure. The recovery from a fistula formation should be straightforward too.
Good luck

Sarah68, Thanks for your response. All I have heard her call it is a stent. What you are describing is probably what it will be. I didn't go to the doctor visits with her so I can only judge it by what she is telling me. I know she is worried about the surgery, because she worries about everything. I think she is even more worried about the dialysis itself when it will begin. She says things like "I don't think I can live a life like that". I am hoping once she starts the treatments she will be feeling better about it all, but I feel bad that she is so depressed over it. Thanks for your description of the procedure. I appreciate the information.

I had kidney stone surgery today. I was using Herbalife Hi Protein drink powder mix and various herbalife pill supplments for the past 6 months. I never had a problem with kidney stones until i started using Herbalife. Has anyone else know anyone with using a high protein diet supplments and getting herbalife? Please help me. I went thru 9 days of passing all kinds of gravel and have had alot of pain and swelling internally.

Basically, you should not be messing around with herbs unless you know what you are doing. Even though herbs are natural, they can also be very dangerous.
If you want to use herbs, then go and see an ND (Naturopathic Doc) who will prescribe them to you and specifically for you. He knows exactly what he is doing also.
If I were you, I would stop taking the Herbalife. I have read a lot about them myself and I think they are just a big con. They make huge claims that I do not think can be achieved without lifestyle changes, such as herbs to help you loose weight, but without changing your diet or doing any exercise - just not possible.
I would suggest that you stop them straight away and if you want to continue with herbs, go and see somebody qualified who knows what they are doing.
Good luck
