Ok here is the deal. I have had a chipped tooth for sometime. I think I have finally found a dentist that accepts my Staywell Florida insurance. I woke up yesterday and my face was swollen. I am taking Augmentin 875 for a sinus infection will it help with the swollen face from the abscess? I am scared it is going to spread and I am going to die from it. I am freaking out. I am up at 2am. I am usually in bed at 10. Please help. I can't get an appointment until next week because I can't afford to pay out of pocket for a Saturday emergency. Thanks for your help. I am going to put some ice on my face and try to go to bed. Hopefully I wake up. I have a 4yr old.

This is something that needs immediate attention. Perhaps your Saturday dentist can offer you a payment plan to get you in before next week. Infections in the mouth/jaw are not something to fool around with, being so close to the brain. Not to mention the pain! I wish you the best!

I had the same thing happen to me. I took the antibiotics given to me by the endodontist who didn't want to work on my tooth until I took the medication for a week but by the weekend my face was swollen and I was sick like I had the flu. I called the endodontist on Saturday who said to come in Monday morning. I had a bad abscess, the tooth had a crown on it and it just felt like it was bubbling all weekend and I had sho0ting pain going along my jaw. The root canal went fine and the pain ended after the appointment.
I don't think you will die or the infection get worse as long as your on the antibiotics. It is very scary though. Continue with the ice on the outside of your face to help reduce the swelling. If you have alot of pain request pain medication. Try and get a Monday appointment. Let us know how it goes.
