I has surgery about 6 weeks ago for a large kidney stone 1 inch in diameter. I had Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy. I have felt great up until a few days ago and the side where I had the stone has started having a dull ache. My doctor says my kidney may be welling and I have to have an IVP done the first of next week. Has anyone ever had Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy done that had problems afterward? I am just terrified that it is another one of those pesky stones!! Thanks for any comments

no, what is pec...nep....? I have had lithotriposy and surgery but not sure what you had. I am allergic to the dye used in an IVP, so I haven't had that for 20 yrs. Good luck, let us know how u make out.

I didn't post the above but got an email stating I had a response to my post. How can there be two "Phee" usernames with the same email address?

Hi Phee

FOZ - PN is basically open surgery to remove a stone that they are not able to blast with Lithotripsy, usually because it is too large, but can be for many reasons.

PHEE - I had a percutaneous nephrolithotomy in October of last year to remove a partial staghorn stone. The procedure itself went well and I was presented with my stone in lots of little bits in a test tube - why..?..who knows.

Anyway, I did have a dull ache for a long while afterwards and my stomach is still numb in places. However, the dull ache did eventually subside and I was signed off by the doc with a note to return in 12 months for another IVP just to check nothing has re-formed.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'welling' - can you explain? Did you have any further tests following the surgery (24hr urine collections etc) to diagnose the cause of your stone(s)? What were the results...?

Not sure what I can offer in terms of advice but you are the only other person I have known on this board to have had the same as me, welcome to the club!

Sorry, been on lyme disease board. I had an anaphylactic reaction to the IVP dye. I was laying on the table tech. started to inject the dye, I got lightheaded, started to say something and the tech was in my face, "are you ok"? I started to develop hives on my face and she saw them. Next thing I remember doctors were all around me apparently I started swollen up and they injected epinephrine into arm. The doctors claim my throat closed and I went unconscious but I don't remember that part. I know I saw a bunch of doctors all around me, hey maybe I was dreaming when I went unconscious!
