I had a UPJ obstruction for years and finally had open operation in Dec of last year. I've had over 87 documented stones and this operation helped, but I still have chronic pain and I went to the Mayo Clinic and still no answers. So now I go back to the pain clinic at Mayo. My operation was painful but I think it was worth it. I was in the hospitol for about a week and have a big scar and a little one.. My doctor was not the most compasionate. And I had a lot of problems getting meds for the pain. He kept telling me everything was ok, but my stent came out twice and the doctor put it back in the first time in the office without any pain meds. The next time I kept telling him it was out and he blew me off and I went two weeks walking around like i had a cob up my but. I was in so much pain I went to ER and found out what I had already known. It was out. I have had alot of problems with stents in the past too. I still have a mild upj obstruction but its better than before.. I'm still producing stones mostly on the right, but have 3 on my left.. Please let me know if you have any other questions.. I will help as much as I can. I've dealt with this kidney problem for 7 1/2 years. Hope I can help!!

Well, thank you very much for replying..I am very scared about the stent, I have heard terrible things about them. I really like my Dr. so far and he has been very easy going about pain meds...never denying me while i have been waiting for my surgery. So hopeful he will be nice after. I go on the 22nd, a little less than 2 weeks..I will come back and let you know how things went. I hope you are feeling better. Thanks so much for your input..i would to hear anymore you may have. Serena =)
