Several weeks ago during blood work my creatinine level was at 1.4, slightly elevated. I decided to cut back on protein and drank tons of water to see if it would come back within the normal range. Sure enough the last test showed it to be at 1.1 which is normal. My BUN was also normal at 8 which normal is 6-20 for this lab. The ratio however is extremely low at 7.3 and normal is 12-20. The doctore said that they did not pay attention the ratio if the BUN and Creatinine were within the normal range. I also take 40 mgs of Benicar and 25 mgs of Thiazide which has pretty much controlled my blood pressure. He said that Benicar could cause renal dysfunction in people just like ACE inhibitors can. If this is true what blood pressure meds besides BEta blockers(made me sick) can control blood pressure and yet have no affect on the kidneys.
