I had an MRI done on Monday for my lumbar spine. My orthopedist mentioned they saw a "small cyst" on my kidney. Anyone know anything about these?

Hi TexMom,
Sorry, I don't know anything about renal cysts, but I do know that I had several on one of my kidneys a few years back and they were gone within a year.

It's not that unusual to have renal cyst that are detected by CT or other scans. It's only when they are infected and active that they give problems!!!
They can stay dormants for years and not cause any problems.

I have cysts on both kidneys that have been noted without change for 10 years on annual CAT scans that have been done for other problems.

I have had bad groin and kidney pain that has come and gone now for about 4 months. When the groin pain was at its worst it was like someone kicked me down below and the sensation can only be described as burning like.

Last week I had severe abdominal pain, so bad I had a hard time walking and stayed in bed. I went to the doctor and I had an ultrsound done and I told that I have a cyst on my kidney and some fatty deposits on my liver. He said not to worry since the pain has once again went away although once in a while my right kidney hurts then the pain goes away. 4 months ago I was told I had kidney stones but this time they did not find any.

Should I be concerned and go see a specialist?
