My mom recently found out that she has breast cancer. Her first surgery is this Friday. Any ideas of what I could get her or do for her following her surgery? I was going to get her flowers, but I'm not sure how personal and thoughtful that is. Also, are there any stores (such as Wal-Mart or Meijers) that carry cancer awareness merchandise?

Hi there,
Please wish your mom good luck with her surgery, I had mine Oct 2006. Flowers are always a nice gesture, my parents gave me a little stuffed dog and put the surgery date on the tag as a reminder. Just be there for her and if she wants to be alone, leave her alone. It's a hard time, beleive me but she'll pull through, you'll see. I'm sure she's a strong woman. As for cancer awareness articles, most of mine were purchased at Zellers but you can find them almost everywhere which is a good thing.
take care

I will pray for her well being. Flowers are always good to express concern and care that you do have for a person, just gift her some beautiful ones. She will love it. Its very hard for her as well as for you. Always be by her side as a strong support. Cancer awareness merchandise are easily available nowadays so you no need to worry about them. Also you can look at some websites that are there in internet. Some of them are really useful.
Please wish her good luck for her surgery.

Just being there for your mother would be a blessing. She will be very frightened by this recent diagnoses and will need some time to adjust. She will need help physically around the house, doing light housekeeping for her is she lets you. You may want to direct her to a website forum for Breast Cancer, where she can connect with other women facing this disease. Take care,
