Hello All,
I am a concerned boyfriend of a young woman who has had a large black/brown spot under her toenail for the last 6 months. She went to a dermatologist a couple of months ago who told her to take a picture and get back to him if it changed in a couple of months. In the past 6 weeks she has developed another on the same toe (big toe) on her other foot. The spots seem to come from no where.
She recently saw a family doctor who directly called a different dermatologist to try to set up an appointment for her. He said it was definitely not a bruise and could be a sign of a degenerative heart condition or melanoma.
I am currently abroad and extremely uneasy as I lost my father to melanoma. Any advice, experience, or insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

If you do not get results from the dermatologist, then go to a podiatrist. Keep us informed.

Could it be fungus? I had what looked like a bruise under my nail on the side and thought of cancer too. It turned out to be toenail fungus and after treatment is gone now.

Omg..what did you do to treat it because I am going through the exact same thing. Im worried. One day I just decided to take the polish off my toenail and then I see a bruise looking thing on my toe. My foot is also numb and the numbness is moving up my whole leg (the right one). My left toe has a tiny small too
