What type of doctor diagnosed you and what are your symptoms. Even though its hard to believe at times, I keep remembering what my doctor told me --The good news is that there are great medicine choices to stay in control.

I hate taking medicine and I definitely felt that way at 28 but if it helps, do it.

Newbie, As sunshine stated what type of doctor diagnosed your condition? PD can be easily misdiagnosed so it might be reasonable to get a second opinion from a neurologist who specializes in PD or a Movement Disorder Specialist. Good luck and let us know how you are doing :)

Hi Guys

Thank you for replying. The PD diagnosis was my second opinion, I was originally diagnosed with Essental Tremors, when my medication wasn't doing anything, I self referred to a Neurologist in London. I had a DAT scan which showed lack of Dopamine and backed up what the new Dr has said. I am taking Ragasiline (possibly spelt wrong) I hope it starts to make a difference!

I'm not familiar with a lot of drugs so I don't recognize the one you mentioned. The thing about PD drugs if they are a dopamine replacement, they tend to work very quickly, so you will know right away. Sinemet is used as a diagnostic tool by a lot of neurologist's to help diagnose suspected PD cases. If it helps the symptoms it gives strength to the argument in favor of PD and if it doesn't help, then there is the possibility the issues are caused by a different condition.

What type of symptoms are you experiencing?

Moe - I believe Ragasiline is Azilect by brand name - it is supposed to help the body use its own dopamine more effectively and delay PD symptoms from progressing

Sunshine, thanks for the clarification, it sounds like a good medicine to try for PD. Thanks! :)
