It may depend on the number of screws, location etc. but my experience was removal of one large screw in the back of my heel. I was on crutches for a day, post op sandal for a week until stitches came out. Pain was minimal. Overall, no big deal. I also want to mention my foot felt much better afterwards. I opted to stay awake during the procedure. They did a nerve block so I felt nothing. It took about 30 minutes.

you know, now that I think about it I don't think I wore a post op sandal except home from the hospital. I wore open back shoes so there was no pressure on the heel.
