Hi everyone!
I am just wondering if anyone has an idea about a possible problem I may have.
I was induced to give birth 2 1/2 months ago due to my liver enzymes being elevated. They were tested due to possible Pre-eclampsia, but never diagnosed as such. When I went in for my 6 month check up, they tested me again to make sure they went back down like they should have so I could start the pill. Unfortunately they didn't go down. I have an appointment next week with a gastroenterologist about it.
I am just wondering what to expect from my appointment, and if any of you have a thought about what may be wrong.
Also, I have been having rectal bleeding too...could it be related?

Dear Aura,

I am very familiar with the type of tests that you will probably be going through. I had to have surgery a little over two years ago because they found a non-malignant tumor on my liver. I had to have over half of my liver removed.

I had elevated liver enzyme levels myself. You are probably looking forward to a series of tests. On the first visit you will probably have several viles of blood drawn for testing. Possibly you will have either a CT/Cat scan or they will schedule you for one. They may even schedule you for a colonoscopy. (I went through all of those and then some.) I went through about a two week period where I had to have some sort of test done almost every single day.

Waiting to find out what your prblem actually is , will probably actually be the worst part of your whole ordeal. I wish you the best and hope that everything turns out ok for you.

Sincerely,

Mountain Man

Thank you Mountain Man for responding. Sounds like you went through hell and back! How is the prognosis for you now? I will let you know how my day goes on Wednesday. I feel fine, so I am not too worried about it, but who the heck knows. I aprreciate the frank heads up on what to expect. 14 years ago I had my gall bladder removed while I was a teenager, and I remember going through all those tests to figure out what was wrong with me....NOT FUN! LOL!
But I am willing to go through whatever tests to make sure my body is healthy! I just never had to deal with liver issues before.
Thanks again!

Hi Aura,

I hope that your tests went ok. I was wondering what the doctor found and how you are now. I have been having some severe pain in the area of my liver and have been sick on my stomache. I have an appointment on Wednesday to find out what my problem is now. LOL.......it's probably just old age creeping up on me, but you never know. I guess it's always best to have things checked out. (After all they found the tumor on my liver by accident.)

Let me know how things are going and what the doctor finds.

Sincerely,
Mountain Man

Well I am more concerned about you now. How did YOUR appointment go??
As far as mine...He did a crap load of blood tests, including hepatitis, Wilson's disease, etc.. He also did a right upper quadrant ultra sound too. Thankfully my blood tests so far are negative..AND my enzymes actually went way down to complete normal! Still waiting results of ultra-sound, but he feels it must have all been related to the pre-eclampsia, and to not worry about it and get re-tested in 6 months. He also scheduled an sigmoidographey in 2 weeks to make sure the bleeding is truly hemmorhoids (sp?).
But please do update us on your condition!! I hope your ok.

I also have high liver enzymes with a normal abdominal ultrasound, and negative hep. My main complaint has been headache and a hot feeling in my forehead.

Do any of you have any symptoms of elevated liver enzymes?

hi mountain man, you may be able to help me.
why do liver enzymnes go up and down. For the past 8 months i have on and off experienced the worst pain in my life, I have had two kids and labour was easy, compared to this pain. The pain is up middle to right side and through to the back. When they first tested the liver in May 2000, the enzymes were up. On and off since it's gettng higher, I was taken in last week for pain and was told it was even higher. Do you have any suggestions, I am due to see a liver specialist very soon, I also have Lupus which I have had for the past 6 years.

Hello all,

I have several autoimmune conditions: fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and vasculitis. I am on Remicade infusions for the rheumatoid arthritis and have blood tests every 6 weeks when I have my Remicade IV. The last two times, my liver enzymes have been elevated--not very much the first time and I don't know how high most recently (Monday). My rheumatologist wants me to take 20 mg of prednisone for five days and then come to her office to repeat the enzyme levels and other blood work. She is concerned that the autoimmune system may be attacking the liver. Does anyone have experience with this?

I have the same problem. I get Remicade every 8 weeks and my liver enzymes will sky rocket. They have been known to go as high as four times the normal range. This started long before I was diagnosed with RA though and before any meds. So I am curious as to what is causing it also. Sometimes they are normal, most of the time the enzymes are elevated. Please let me know if you have any further information. Also, do you have a lot of pain in your knees or swelling in your ankles? I also have the feeling of running a temp but do not usually have a tempature. My face and ears get really flushed though. I hope that maybe we can help each other.
