My sister is going through some testing to see if she has MS. So of course she is very nervous and anxious and her doctor said that she could take 25mgs of xanax every day. He said at that low dose it is not addictive..what are your thought on that...I always thought taking xanax every day would become addictive no matter how low the dose.

they usually only prescribe that for a few months at a time. yeah it's highly addictive. i was on xanax for a year, though, at 1 mg 1 or 2 times a day

Why would they need to be taken everyday though? and why would a doctor tell her to take them everyday? I could understand if you had anxiety so bad, that the only way you could leave the house was to have to take one before leaving, but even sitting at home and being nervous? I don't see the point of taking one then.

I don't think my sister is taking them because she is so nervous she can't leave her house. She is having tingling, pins and needles feeling, things like that going on in her body and by taking a xanax it kinda helps so the tingling isn't so bad..she said it can get so bad that it could about drive a person crazy, sometimes it will go to intense itching and burning...so she is going through lots of test and that can be very stressful in itself..so by taking a xanax it sorta calms her mind and her symptoms..I don't think she will continue to take xanax after she finds out the diagnosis and gets help...I was just surprised that a neurologist would say it was okay to take .25 xanax daily and that it would not be addictive

Thats understandable. But i wonder why xanax? A longer acting benzo would probably be better off for her, since her anxiety isn't triggered by certain events, it's just always "there" With .25 she will probably have to pop like 3 a day cause those will wear off fast.

I myself get hot flashes,( i'm a guy by the way lol) and i always get stressed out when they happen cause i think it's my blood pressure, even though when i check it seems fine and my BP only seems to go up during it when i stress out from the flashes. I'm going to bring up a benzo with my doc tomorow and maybe get on zoloft or Prozac.

What docs hate about benzos though is they just make you tottally numb to any type of anxiety, which isn't good, i mean people should have SOME anxiety in their life, but not like most of us have it, so then by the time you get off the benzos, the rebound anxiety is so much worse than before you started taking them and your body has an even harder time processing it.

When my mom started having seizures she was put on ativan to stop the seizures (she also started having panic attacks after the first one and would have panic attacks every day when it got dark out)....so the xanax is probably being used for something such as this (unrelated to anxiety).

In my mom's case she didn't get addicted despite taking the ativan every day. She was on I think a 1mg dosage? I'm not familiar with dosing of ativan/xanax, etc... so I'm not sure if this is high, low or average.

Side note: oddly, Lourage, the "no feeling of anxiety" is something I experience on paxil! (ativan does nothing for my anxiety).

In any case, do you mean your sister's on .25mgs? I know enough about dosing and xanax to know that .25mgs isn't all that large of a dose, so your sister might not become addicted like those on higher doses.
